Kratom Side Effects and Risks

Kratom Side Effects and Risks

Kratom is a tropical tree used for centuries for its medicinal properties. In recent years, it has become more prevalent in Western countries as an alternative to traditional medical treatments. While kratom can have many potential benefits, including pain relief and and reduced stress, it can also have several possible side effects. Here are some of the most common kratom side effects:

Nausea and vomiting:

This is one of the most common side effects of kratom. It can occur at any dose but is often associated with the consumption of higher doses. If you experience nausea after taking kratom, it is best to take a smaller amount next time or try a different strain altogether. Some users find that anti-nausea medication can help mitigate this side effect. Start with a low dose to avoid nausea and vomiting and increase gradually as needed. If you experience nausea, try taking kratom with food or a small amount of water.

Dry mouth:

Kratom can cause dry mouth, which can be uncomfortable and lead to dehydration. Dry mouth can be alleviated by drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day or chewing gum. Avoiding caffeine and alcohol while taking kratom can also help reduce dry mouth. You may also experience an increased thirst. Be sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water when taking kratom.

Sweating:

Kratom can cause excessive sweating, especially at higher doses. If you are sweating excessively after taking kratom, drinking plenty of fluids and wearing loose-fitting clothing is best. You may also want to try a lower dose next time. If you are taking kratom in a hot environment or during exercise, be sure to stay hydrated to avoid dehydration. If you are prone to sweating, it is recommended that you take a lower dose. Wearing loose, comfortable clothing and staying in cool environments can also help minimize sweating.

Dizziness and headaches:

Some users may experience dizziness and headaches, particularly when taking a large dose. If you experience these side effects, try reducing your dosage or taking kratom with food or a small amount of water. You may also want to consult your doctor if you frequently experience these side effects.

Constipation:

Constipation is another common side effect of kratom use. To alleviate constipation, drinking plenty of fluids and eating high-fiber foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains is essential. You may also want to try a lower dose next time or try a different strain altogether. Some users find that over-the-counter laxatives can help mitigate this side effect.

Insomnia:

Some people may find that kratom increases their insomnia. If this is the case, try taking kratom earlier in the day and avoiding caffeine after 2 pm. Establishing a regular sleep schedule can also help combat insomnia caused by kratom use. If you have difficulty sleeping after taking kratom, it is best to take a lower dose next time.

Changes in appetite:

Kratom can cause changes in appetite, which can be either an increase or decrease in appetite, depending on the individual user. If your appetite has changed after taking kratom, it is best to adjust your dosage accordingly. Some users find that they need to eat more frequently when taking kratom, while others find that they need to eat less regularly when taking kratom. Listening to your body and adjusting your dosage as needed is essential.

If you find that your appetite has decreased while taking kratom, make sure to eat regular meals and snacks throughout the day to avoid weight loss. If you are concerned about changes in your appetite, talk to your doctor.

Liver damage:

Although rare, liver damage has been reported in some individuals who have used kratom. If you experience any signs or symptoms of liver damage, such as yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, or easy bruising or bleeding, it’s important to seek medical attention immediately. You should also avoid using kratom if you have any pre-existing liver conditions.

While kratom can have many potential benefits, including pain relief and stress reduction, it can also have several possible side effects. Nausea and vomiting, dry mouth, sweating, dizziness and headaches, constipation, insomnia, and changes in appetite are some of the most common kratom side effects.

However, in rare cases, more severe side effects, such as liver damage, have been reported. If you experience any severe side effects while taking kratom, stop consumption immediately and seek medical attention if necessary.
