Blood root is a perennial flowering plant native to eastern North America. The red juices of the blood root can be used in pastes or salves externally to help with removing warts. Used by Native American artists, blood root is a natural dye. When cut open, the root has a reddish sap. Blood root is also an antiseptic. It has been used in commercial toothpastes to help support oral hygiene and health.
Blood root is a poisonous herb and may cause vomiting. Do not ingest.
