Cardamom – Elettaria cardamomum
Country of origin: Guatemala
Cardamom powder comes from seeds from the pods of a flowering shrub native to India, Nepal, and Bhutan. They impart a spicy, pungent flavour. The largest supplier for cardamom is Guatemala followed next by India. Cardamom is frequently the main ingredient in Indian cuisine, and in some of the baked goods of the Nordic countries. It can also be found being used as a cooking spice in the Middle East and South Asia.
Safety: Cardamom should be avoided in large amounts especially those with gallbladder issues.
