Hops – Humulus lupulus
Hops are the flowers, or seed cones (strobiles,) of the Humulus lupulus plant. Hops are mostly used as flavoring and stabilizing agent in beer. But, they are also used in other beverages and even in herbal medicine. In the middle ages each village would brew it’s own beer as a safer alternative to untreated water. Hops were traditionally a favorite with brewers because it would help keep the beer from spoiling.
