Mitragyna javanica is an ethnobotanical plant species native to Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia and Malaysia. It is a member of the Rubiaceae family, which also includes coffee and kratom. Both kratom and Javanica are members of the Mitragyna genus biologically. The plant’s leaves and bark contain several active compounds, including mitrajavine, isomitraphylline, and isorhynchophylline.
Mitragyna Javanica possesses almost all of the Kratom-related alkaloids chemically. However, due to the paucity of research on Javanica, we are unable to map all of its different alkaloids. The absence of Kratom’s X-factor, namely mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine. Despite their similarities, kratom and Javanica still differ greatly from one another. The powder can then be consumed directly or mixed with water or another beverage. In some cultures, the powder is brewed into a tea or decoction. To prepare the tea, the powder is simmered in water for several minutes, then strained and consumed. Some users also mix the powder with honey or other sweeteners to mask the bitter taste.
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, and headache. Individuals with liver problems or who are taking medications should avoid using Mitragyna javanica.
