Rose Hips – Rosa canina
Rose Hips, also known as rose haw or rose hep, are the fruit of the rose plant. They begin to form after the pollination of the flower and ripen in late summer to fall. Rose hips are safe for animals and have recently become a treat for chinchillas, guinea pigs and horses. They are a great source of Vitamin C for small pets. Traditionally, they were used in many foods by Native Americans such as wine, jam, syrup, soup, pies, bread and many more delicious foods, and are the richest plant source available for Vitamin C. They also contain lycopene. Rose petals or oil can turn a normal bath into a luxurious spa. The scent of rose has a long history.
