What is Ginseng Powder - Chinese White?

Chinese White Ginseng Powder is the ground sun-dried root of Panax ginseng, the Asian ginseng species (Araliaceae). "White" ginseng is simply the root dried in the sun without the steaming step that produces "red" ginseng, so the two are the same species processed in different ways.

About the plant

Like red ginseng, white ginseng comes from the mountain forests of northeast China and the Korean peninsula. Sun-drying leaves the root closer to its natural pale color and is traditionally considered the gentler of the two forms in Chinese herbalism, while the steamed red form is regarded as more warming. It is a different species from American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) and from Siberian "ginseng" (Eleutherococcus senticosus), which is not a true ginseng at all. Its characteristic compounds are the ginsenosides.
