about kratom

What is kratom?

Kratom is the dried, ground leaf of Mitragyna speciosa, a tropical evergreen tree native to Southeast Asia. The leaves contain a family of alkaloids — mitragynine and 7-hydroxy-mitragynine being the two best-studied — that have made kratom a traditional botanical for centuries in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Papua New Guinea.

Red, green, white — what's the difference?

The vein color refers to the color of the leaf's central vein at harvest, which corresponds loosely to the leaf's maturity. The same tree can produce all three depending on when the leaf is picked and how it's dried.

  • Red vein — the most mature leaves, typically dried the longest.
  • Green vein — harvested mid-maturity, between red and white; often the everyday pick.
  • White vein — younger leaves, often dried indoors away from light.
  • Specialty / yellow — usually a blend or an extended-drying technique. Each shop's specialty is its own thing.

Strain names — Maeng Da, Bali, Hulu, Sumatra

Strain names refer to the region of origin or the cultivar lineage, not the alkaloid profile directly. Maeng Da ("pimp grade" in Thai) is a marketing term that's come to mean a high-alkaloid select. Bali, Sumatra, Malay, and Hulu Kapuas all reference geographic origin.

We don't claim that any one strain is "stronger" or "better" — alkaloid content varies batch to batch. That's why we lab-test our kratom and post the report on request.

How we source & test

Our kratom comes through our Portland shop and is tested for heavy metals, microbial contamination, and alkaloid content (mitragynine + 7-hydroxy-mitragynine). We're certified by the Oregon Department of Agriculture and run GMP manufacturing with HACCP food-safety protocols. Certificates of analysis are available per batch — ask us and we'll send the lab report for your batch.

A note on use

We sell kratom for educational and research purposes only. The FDA has not evaluated kratom for any therapeutic use, and we can't legally make health claims. Do your own research, talk to a healthcare practitioner, and never combine with other substances without medical guidance. Must be 21+ to purchase.

kratom faq

Kratom FAQ

Is kratom legal where I live?
Kratom is legal in most U.S. states, but a few states and some cities and counties restrict or ban it. We don't ship kratom anywhere it's prohibited, and checkout will flag a restricted address. See our shipping page for the current list.
How is your kratom tested?
Our kratom is screened for heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury), microbial contamination (yeast, mold, salmonella, and E. coli), and alkaloid content (mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine). We're certified by the Oregon Department of Agriculture and run GMP manufacturing with HACCP food-safety protocols.
Can I get a certificate of analysis (COA) for my kratom?
Yes. We keep COAs on file. Request the lab report for any product you've ordered and we'll send it over.
What's the difference between red, green, and white vein kratom?
Vein color refers to the color of the leaf's central vein at harvest, which tracks loosely with leaf maturity. Red is the most mature, green is harvested mid-maturity and the most balanced, and white comes from younger leaves. The same tree can produce all three.
What does "Maeng Da" mean?
Maeng Da ("pimp grade" in Thai) is a marketing term for a high-alkaloid select, not a region. Names like Bali, Sumatra, Malay, and Hulu Kapuas refer to geographic origin or cultivar lineage, not a guaranteed alkaloid profile.
How should I store kratom?
Keep kratom in a sealed container away from heat, light, and moisture. Stored cool and dry, the powder holds its color and aroma for a long time.
