What is Green Maeng Da kratom?

Green Maeng Da is a green-vein strain of Mitragyna speciosa, the kratom tree native to Southeast Asia. "Maeng Da" is a Thai colloquial phrase that loosely translates to "pimp grade", slang that Thai farmers historically used for their best, most sought-after leaf. Today the name describes a grade and lineage rather than a single plantation: most Green Maeng Da kratom on the US market descends from Thai-origin stock that is now grown in Indonesia and processed to a green-vein profile.

The "green" refers to the color of the central vein of the leaf at harvest, which tracks loosely with how mature the leaf was when picked. Green-vein kratom is harvested at mid-maturity, between the younger white-vein leaf and the older red-vein leaf, and is the most widely purchased vein color in the category, which makes Green Maeng Da one of the most popular kratom strains we carry.
