What is a live kratom plant?

A live kratom plant is a living Mitragyna speciosa tree, the same species kratom leaf comes from, sold for home cultivation. Kratom is a tropical evergreen in the coffee family (Rubiaceae), native to Southeast Asia, and growing your own is a long-term project for plant enthusiasts and collectors.

Growing a kratom plant

Kratom is a tropical tree that needs consistent warmth, high humidity, and bright but filtered light. It is not frost-hardy, so in most US climates it has to be grown indoors, in a greenhouse, or moved inside for the cooler months. Young plants do best with steady moisture and protection from cold drafts.
