What is Irish Moss Powder?

Irish Moss Powder is ground dried Chondracanthus chamissoi, the red seaweed of the South American Pacific coast, milled to a powder for direct use. It is the same seaweed as our whole dried Irish Moss, ready to stir into recipes without soaking and blending.

About the seaweed

Chondracanthus chamissoi is a red-purple alga that grows on rocky shores along the Pacific coasts of Peru and Chile, where it is known as yuyo and chicoria de mar and has long been eaten as a coastal food. It belongs to the same seaweed family as the North Atlantic Chondrus crispus and, like it, contains carrageenan, the natural thickening polysaccharide. It naturally contains iodine and minerals including magnesium, calcium, and potassium.
