What are Nag Champa dhoop cones?

These are the classic Nag Champa fragrance, sweet, floral, and slightly resinous, pressed into dhoop cones. Dhoop is the Indian term for stickless incense: pure incense paste shaped into a cone, with no bamboo core. The result is a denser, more concentrated aromatic smoke than stick incense produces.

Dhoop cones vs. stick incense

Traditional Indian incense comes in two main formats. Agarbatti, the familiar stick, is paste rolled around a thin bamboo splint; it burns 30 to 45 minutes with lighter smoke. Dhoop cones are solid paste, so they burn hotter and faster, roughly 10 to 20 minutes per cone, and put out noticeably denser smoke. Cones suit larger rooms and shorter sessions where you want the fragrance to arrive quickly; sticks suit long, low-key burns. Because there is no bamboo splint, cones also skip the faint burnt-bamboo note some people notice in stick incense.

Burning a dhoop cone

A cone needs a flat heatproof base: a cone burner, or any heatproof dish with a layer of sand. Light the tip, blow out the flame, and the cone smolders from top to bottom. Burn in a ventilated room and let the ash cool fully before discarding.
