about this product

What is Fiji Waka kava?

Fiji Waka is noble kava root powder from Fiji. "Waka" refers specifically to the lateral roots of the kava plant, as opposed to "lawena", the basal stump and trunk material. Traditional Pacific Islander preparation distinguishes between these root cuts, and waka is a prized grade. It is ground Piper methysticum root.

Where our Fiji Waka comes from

We source Fiji Waka from established Fijian growers. Fiji has a long kava tradition, and selling kava by root cut, such as the lateral-root waka grade, is part of how Fijian kava is graded.

Our Fiji Waka is third-party lab tested for heavy metals, microbial contaminants, and kavalactone content. A Certificate of Analysis is available on request.

Fiji Waka vs. other kava

Kava differs by origin and, in Fiji, by root cut:

  • Fiji Waka — Fijian lateral-root (waka) grade.
  • Vanuatu — the heart of kava cultivation.
  • Solomon Islands — distinct noble cultivars.

How kava is traditionally prepared

Kava root is traditionally prepared by kneading the ground root in water and straining out the fibrous material, which yields the classic Pacific Islander kava beverage served across Vanuatu, Fiji, and the wider Pacific. Ground root powder is the form used for that traditional preparation; a strainer bag or a shaker such as the AluBall makes it quicker.

Fiji Waka Kava Root Powder & Capsules

Fiji Waka is available as traditional ground root powder and as pre-filled capsules. Powder is sold by weight for traditional preparation; capsules are pre-filled with the same ground root. The kava is identical; only the format differs.

Storage

Store kava powder in an airtight container, away from heat, light, and humidity. Kept cool and dry, Fiji Waka holds its quality for a long time.
